Sarah Gilbert, a professor of vaccinology at Oxford, said, “We are thinking about second generation formulations of vaccines” which would replace injections but the expert warned that it would take time to develop these alternatives, the Independent reports. She added that flu vaccines can now be administered via nasal sprays and that oral vaccines would make the immunization much simpler without the need for needles and syringes.

Scientists from Lancaster University in England and Texas Biomedical Research Institute in San Antonio are working on a nasal spray to combat COVID-19 that has been shown to be effective in animal studies.
