A couple things of note: Solar & Windmills work fine in areas where the people running them have planned for inclement weather. Texas did not plan for inclement weather.

Also, Tx's electric problems really have very little to do with the windmills shutting down and MUCH more to do with them intentionally disconnecting from the rest of the US' electric grid in an attempt to avoid regulation.

Not surprisingly, when you avoid regulation, you tend to fail at things regulation would have forced you to plan for (like a polar vortex event).
