Yes. I used Shopify for their free 30 day trial a couple of years ago. These guys aren't even in the top 100 for SEO services. Their customer service was HORRIBLE and I went a week during my trial without anybody looking at my help ticket. Their website templates were boring.

They still offer a free 14 day trial. I'd bet thats what Matt went for. If he had a real web person doing his site, submitting his URL's to the SE's would be their job. Good website managers prefer to do their own submissions because then they can focus on the areas they want to target and not just spam the world. Effective SEO optimization is all about targeting your area of interest.

Shopify is an entry level SEO service. If your going to plan on going big then you need a company like OuterBox or Thrive that specializes in eCommerce. Shopify is great for the hobby vlogger or local fishing reporter.
