Oceanic shipping container shortage is now hitting Chile

Bagged Lithium travels the oceans in steel containers set in special areas of the ship to watch 24/7 for spontaneous fire.

Ten days ago here we talked about the rumor of our very own Uncle Posco (major Bearing shareholder) getting involved in the oceanic container business https://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=161378085 which Uncle Posco sorta' kinda' denied he was looking into https://theloadstar.com/kdb-eyes-sale-of-stake-in-box-line-hmm-to-steel-giant-posco/

In 2019 Korean battery-maker LG Chem sued Korean battery-maker SK innovation for intellectual property theft https://insideevs.com/news/347155/lg-chem-trade-secrets-theft-sk-innovation/ on their pouch-type patent-protected lithium battery designs.

Last night US International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled in favor of LG Chem with a TEN-year ban against SKI on selling lithium batteries in the USA https://insideevs.com/news/487231/sk-innovation-batteries-banned-10-years-us/
This TEN year ban on new SKI batteries primarily affects Volkswagen and Ford.

So what does this mean? It is quite possible now that in the big picture you will see bagged lithium that was supposed to be containerized in Chile, shipped through the Panama Canal and on to the SKI Georgia battery-making plant (tsk tsk, now destined for "early" retirement)... will be instead shipped back home to Korean, probably made into Korean Uncle Posco's buddy Korean LG Chem patent-protected "pouch" batteries, put back into oceanic containers as finished batteries and then shipped to the USA (most likely to Volkswagen and Ford under some new licensing agreement which SKI is now going to pay dearly though their nose for).

So in the end, I think we can say/estimate that our Uncle Posco is going to have a very profitable 2021 through 2031 if he does indeed get into the sideline shipping container business also especially in light of the upcoming container shortages affecting especially Chile (where Bolivia and Argentina will be trying to ship their lithium out of "shortest-distance" seaport eventually also).

I suppose next you will be asking... OK, but where in the hell is Korean Uncle Posco going to get all this extra lithium for his Korean buddy LG Chem that they will need to ramp up for Ford & Volkswagen EV operations in the USA? Well, that is a good question. Let's think about it some more and meet back here tomorrow.
