Spent Wednesday night to Sunday afternoon last week in Vegas at the Venetian.

First, the Venetian is a very nice place. Their standard room is called a Luxury Suite. It is about 600 square feet and has a fairly large living area. We got a group rate on the rooms at $179; normally they are in the $250ish range. They have some larger suites, but unless you are planning on having a cocktail party in the room, the Luxury Suite is plenty big enough, especially since the next largest Suite cranks up at $400 a night. Lots of restaurants in the Venetian (25+). It would be very easy to never leave the hotel.

Gambling. Came back a winner, and a pretty decent one at that. Only played for about 8 hours, but made it count. Had about 15 total gambling sessions and only lost money at two of them: one was my weakness and was too large. The other one I cut off at a $300 loss. Played blackjack and craps and one short session (read small bets for fun) of Let it Ride. I used the 2-1-2-3-4-5-6 money management system at Black Jack, but only got to 5 once and never got to six. Had one very weird session. Dealer went through three shoes with 0, 2, and 2 busts respectively. Made money on all three of those shoes. The next two shoes, the dealer busted five and six times and I lost money (gave back winnings) on both of those shoes. I found a great bet at craps that I really like. Lay $30 on 4 through 10 on the come out roll. Costs $180 plus $4 juice. If a seven is thrown, you win ~$120. If 2-3-11-12 is thrown, the bet pushes. A 4 through 10 roll results in a $30 loss -- a loss of the bet on the number thrown. Made lots of $$ on this bet.

A group of us went to the Orleans and got a private 1-4-8 Hold'um table. Played for about five hours and was the table winner at +$400. It was a very weird game. $4 is just not enough to bluff anyone out of the hand, especially before the flop. We had a couple of very inexperienced card players which made for some interesting hands.

Comps. I enjoyed the Venetian, but the comps were not great. I got a whopping $75 food credit. They expect an 4 hours a day at $150 average bet at craps for food credit and $300 average bet for room credit. At blackjack, they expect 4 hours at $50 for food credit and 4 hours at $150 for room credit. My eight hours at $125 over four days did not get me much.

Walked over to Treasure Island. Lots of construction and they have a new, very cheesy sign out front. Lots of remodeling going on. There is a flower display for Roy in front of the Mirage.

For those of you going this week, good luck.

Plan the grub and grub the plan.

Where is the party tonight? Who is bringng the drinks?
