I don't think you understand how shorting works - the investor is betting the price is going down - and being long is betting the price will go up.

And shorting is far more difficult than being long.

Saying shorting should be made illegal - no what is illegal is collusion and pumping like WallStreetBets did with GME. Those behind WallStreetBets should be prosecuted.
