Here’s the response I got back from Ameritrade about trading not being allowed almost all day .

I apologize for the confusion on this. I see that you placed several OTC trades. OTC only trades in the regular market. If you try to use extended hours, it will come up with an error message of Invalid session.

Using the "extended sessions," the general name given to the pre- and post-markets, is dependent on the security, not on what you as a client are allowed to do.

For example, AAPL, Apple) is a security that trades in the extended market, which is from 7am-9:28am for the pre-market and 4:02-8:00pm for the post-market, EST. If you were to place an order with the time-in-force as Day + Extended, it would encompass all of this extra time. Any person can trade during those times, but it depends whether the security is traded in those times.

So, when you place your trade from the website, be sure to choose Limit order, and for Time in Force, choose any of the times listed that include the word "extended." If you click on the Time in Force label that is underlined, it will bring up a popup window that shows exactly when the different market times begin and end.

We greatly appreciate your business and know you have a choice where you invest. If there is anything else, we can do for you, or could have done better, please let us know.
