It would be a very, very stupid move for the US to attempt to tax unrealized capital gains. I guarantee you 1 of 2 things will happen if not both.

1) Easy to move liquid assets into crypto currencies and either hold in wallets off the network (ie trezors). or at foreign exchanges that don't disclose to US govt.

2) Move your assets outside the US.


This would also promote businesses to invest outside of the US also.

Absolutely the dumbest idea I have seen in years.
