Over two weeks ago I sent a query to BASF's battery material managers(Ethridge & Kuhn).

https://catalysts.basf.com/industries/recycling/lithium-ion-battery-recycling

Here is a summary of what was in the query:

- Recent 10 Dec 2020 BASF Research press conference Battery Recycling presentation featured a "New BASF process scheme" that " avoids waste" and provides for a "circular battery value chain in Europe."

- Slide 13 of that presentation featured a timeline for a new pilot plant to scale up the lab proof of concept. That slide also contained a logo of "Land Brandenburg."

Question asked: "Is this new pilot plant going to be one of the modules of the Schwarzheide plant announced for construction in the 12 Feb 2020 BASF Business and Financial press release? "

Thought it might be a coincidence but noticed the timeline for operation of the new BASF process pilot plant (2022) was the same for the Schwarzheide facility which also is in Brandenburg. In addition, per the Feb 2020 press release; "Schwarzheide plant’s modular design and infrastructure allows for the rapid scale-up of manufacturing capacities enabling BASF to meet increasing customer demand for the European EV market."

The modular design is ideal for a rapid construction of this new pilot plant as well as being co-located to process 'black mass"/PCAM from the Harjavalta, Finland facility also scheduled for 2022 operation. Permits for the Schwarzheide site were secured in June 2020.

Haven't heard back from BASF so they have not seen my query, or are still looking through their messages or can't confirm what was asked.

The telling point is that as far back as probably Jan 2020-- BASF knew that they had a serious solution to finding an efficient green process to providing battery materials. With Melsert's team still in the BASF lab, that should speak volumes.
