The claim:

Thermal coal has become a
relatively small player in coal's playbook.

The facts:

The electric power sector accounted for about 93.8% of the total U.S. coal consumption in the third quarter of 2020.

https://www.eia.gov/coal/production/quarterly/

Peabody itself reports more than 50% revenues in thermal coal. The real problem is in Q3 2020 they were still losing $24.99/ton of met coal they produced.

Since the coal industry makes this country poorer with it's more expensive electricity, which also needlessly poisons people causing thousands of premature deaths and many more illnesses each year, how, exactly, is the coal industry patriotic? Sources have been provided repeatedly.

By fighting against progress, kicking and screaming to retain the subsidies for it's dirty and deadly and expensive product? Forestalling the real progress we need to move forward.

The cat is out of the bag now. The world has come to realize that solar is better and cheaper than coal. There is really no stopping the energy transition to the future.

This is why financial advisors who have a fiduciary duty to their clients are no longer able to make the case for investment in this dying industry.

Again, sources for this information have been provided repeatedly.
