Malaria and SCD have an association, so developing a drug for either will, by defualt, educate a researcher about one or the other. it's good, malaria, believe it or not, is STILL a major source of sickness/death over there.

HIV research/cures....well...good luck. This is one shifty virus. There are companies that throw ass loads of money on this research with an army of scientists and still can't "fix it."
