I hadn't updated my TDA transactions history to reflect the New Year. I hadn't noticed it because I haven't traded anything yet in 2021. So I only found out about the foreign transaction fee because I always try to use all of my cash to buy stocks, which meant that I owed TDA $6 + to pay the $15 fee, and so I had a $6 + margin call (in my cash account, I don't use margin). I'm sure it cost TDA more than $6 to pay the customer service rep for the 30 minutes it her to find out why they issued a margin call.

Oh, well, such is my life from time to time.
