We got some good information watching L2 today. Early in the day the one tick shaving orders were not present on the bid or ask. After a few hours of that stuff being gone we saw buyers return and a nice move up for the PPS.

For much of the afternoon the tick shavers returned, but after making some obvious undercuts, the ask undercutter disappeared, and for the last couple of hours the ask wasn't burdened down, so nobody hit the bids and we had a nice finish.

I know my analysis isn't for everyone, but if anyone is interested, I first learned how to trade L2 in 1998. Back then online trading had not taken off yet, so I traded with a group of about 11 in a small office, and because of vast rule differences back then, we all had daytrading buying power in excess of 100 to 1....now it's generally 4 to 1. All day long we muscled quotes around similar to what I'm seeing on this quote. It's second nature for me to spot this kind of stuff and it's fun to teach people how to spot these things.

What sucks is when I see people caving in to this manipulation and making huge decisions while not recognizing the game that's being run. Take it for what it's worth. Studying what's happening and understanding why the quote or PPS is acting the way it's acting will help everyone to make more informed decisions.
