The probation department will do a presentence investigation, concerned citizens can contact them and express their view of what his sentence should be, The sentencing judge is required to read the presentence report but is not required to follow the recommendations (but they usually do!)

As it turns out, LTs probation officer was mortified about his dossier on her!!!
