In April of 2019, Environmental Research Center, Inc. (ERC) noticed BioSteel Sports Nutrition Inc. & Smart Warehousing, LLC for violations on 12 products for alleged toxic substances known as Cadmium, Lead and Lead Compounds per the independant testing results of ERC. The products in violation include:

A settlement was reached in August 2019 which included civil penalties in the amount of $33,451 to the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) to deposit in the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Fund.
