It depends. If their alias was changed by Matt, then all their old messages will now show the new alias. In that case, searching for the old name (alias) won't show you any messages that they posted.

However, sometimes people end up with multiple accounts (yes, it's a TOS violation) but are allowed to pick one to keep and the rest are booted. In that case, searching for the old name would still work since it's technically a separate account.

Since you have no way of knowing which one occurred, the best strategy is to search for both names.
