I'm long HOGC & about 50 other stocks, I only short large cap stocks and ETF funds(fund baskets). I usually place short positions when the market has had a strong up move. Last year I was short early in the year and then 100% long starting in August. Placed my first short positions this year last week BIDU and at the close today GS. These are trading position and more of a hedge for my long positions. It is hard to make the big money on the short side, 85% of my money is made on the long side in any average year. Except for periods like 1987, 1991-1992 & 2001-2003 more money was made on the short side.
