This is why I am a believer in a re-design and re-entry of the Falcon...as well as...development of the XIO. Consumer haptics are finally entering the market. Roughly 15 years after the Falcon. The reality is that the Falcon was the first...and is still the only consumer haptic peripheral.

this was posted in a forum just today:

Haptics are really one of the biggest leaps this gen.

So I just got my PS5, and finished platinuming Ghosts Of Tsushima on it. Going from 30-60fps was obviously a huge improvement. It really felt like it was designed with higher framerate in mind. Everything was superior at higher framerates. That being said. Coming from the stupendous astro playroom controller implementation and then starting demon souls soon after. It really showed me, that while improved performance is great, it's performance in conjunction with the exceptional immersion that the dual sense provides. Ghosts rumble genuinely felt like I was missing something important stepping back to standard vibration. As a PC gamer, with a 3080, a great mouse and keyboard, all the bells and whistles you could want. I have to say, that I would choose to play most games with the dual sense should it be available to use as intended. (Is it already fully implemented on steam?). I genuinely feel like it adds that much to the experience. It's like what the knuckle controllers did for me for VR.

I own a Novint Falcon that I used many years ago and it really opened my eyes to good haptics and its effect on gameplay. Which is why VR and haptics always gets me so excited. Haptics is important, and the dual sense really does a great job. Having a powerful console is important, but this is the first time on console I've felt that the immersion provided by the peripherals cannot be understated.

He is talking about Sony's dual sense controller for the PS5. It's probably the only device that comes close to a true haptic experience...but still falls way short of the Falcon.

Here's the same cat on a follow up:

I really didn't expect this. I've had a switch and the joy cons are nice, and they do add to the expeience. But I put this a step above the joy cons and index controllers even. The additive effect is exceptional.

Like I said the Novint Falcon is the only thing that was above this in my experience. And support for that was nearly non existent.

That sure says a lot given that the Falcon is approaching 15 years in age. And knowing that support lacked for it drives the point home of being way to far ahead of anything out there..and still is.
