It's never a good thing when politics influence a judicial decision. However, it would be naive to think that doesn't happen.

U.S. District Judges are appointed through politics by the President. Some of the younger District Judges are activists these days. Others are climbers looking to get appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals. The Judge in our case was an obama appointee. Both attended Harvard Law School. The fact that this relatively simple decision is taking this long could mean they are waiting to see how the election plays out. Clearly there was a shift from the obama administration to the Trump administration, when it comes to patent law and protecting the rights of those with patents. Big tech, i.e. google and MSFT don't like that. They worked with the obama administration to limit a small companies ability to monetize patents and worked with the democrats to suppress and censor public information, during the election season. Any fair minded person can see that. When big tech does favors for the government or assists a party to get elected, they want a return on that investment. Hopefully, part of the payback isn't a favorable decision for big tech.
