View Systems is looking to market the latest version of its ViewScan weapons detection system with the launch of a new website geared toward international audiences. ViewScan II offers facial recognition and thermal imaging in addition to weapons detection.

The new biometric features are being introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has forced organizations to prioritize contactless solutions that protect public health while still providing strong access control. View Systems primarily markets the ViewScan to government agencies and military bases in the United States, with total sales for the platform coming to more than $14 million. That number will rise as ViewScan preorders continue to come in, though View Systems will not be revealing firm numbers until those deals are finalized.

ViewScan manufacturing will take place in Barranquilla, Colombia. View Systems noted that its facilities are only three hours away from the US by air, or three days by sea, which satisfies the American preference for near-shore overseas operations. IP Video Corp has ViewScan distribution rights in the US, with a client list that includes public schools, police stations, correctional facilities, and the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC).

View Systems retains the international distribution rights for its platform. The company is planning to bring ViewScan to big box stores, and has already installed the solution to prevent theft at Ingram Micro distribution facilities.

In other news, View Systems announced that it is finalizing its acquisition of the medical marijuana company Sannabis S.A.S., and will be providing details about its distribution license once that process is complete. Both Sannabis and View Systems are based in Colombia.

The introduction of thermal imaging is in keeping with a broader trend during the pandemic. Companies like VSBLTY, ZKTeco, and Suprema and have all supplemented their computer vision platforms with temperature detection to watch for people with symptoms of COVID-19.
