I read the results of the pfizer report yesterday, and for a person with a very little knowledge of clinical trial procedures but a lot of education in statistical analysis things make very little sense.
So they took 22 thousand people and gave them placebo then they took 22 thousand more and gave them the vaccine. After 3 month 94 people out this 44 thousand got the virus. according to some sources 8 of them were vaccinated and the rest were not. That's where the 90% effectiveness comes from ? That's really bizarre to me.
I understand they were trying to achieve some randomness by taking so many people, but what if those with placebo were exposed more to the virus, just by chance ? I think 94 is really a low number. They said they will re-evaluate wen 164 people get the virus. Still seems low to me. Why not 1 thousand ? If 1 k out 44k gets sick and only 100 of them are from the vaccine group then I would believe this more. But 94 is not large enough group to make any assumptions. IMHO
If someone more knowledgeable can chime in please do
