If it is inhaled, immune-suppressing properties are found. “When you inhale Aviptadil, you get a good amount of it into your lungs,” says Müller-Quernheim, “and it doesn't even get to the intestines, where it could cause side effects.” The doctors discovered after four weeks that the Release of TNF (tumor necrosis factor), the main pro-inflammatory cytokine, in the lungs had decreased significantly. At the same time, there was an increased number of regulatory T cells. Both are urgently needed to dampen irAE pneumonitis from the lungs.

Anti-inflammatory neuropeptides
Mueller-Quernheim's team was also able to achieve success with Aviptadil in the first cancer patient who had undergone immunotherapy with checkpoint inhibitors because of a melanoma and who developed pneumonitis.......
