No, in layman terms ORC is a middleman in Fannie/Freddie government backed mortgages.

They provide the money for blocks of mortgages at set interest rates. They don't service the loans nor do they administrate them. Bonus! the federal government insures them. I guess there are bad things that could happen to these investments but often the worst case is that some loans get paid off early.

And, being a mREIT provides us investors with a more than fair opportunity to get in on the action.
