The trend towards integration is all meant to stay ahead of commoditization. That's why AMD merged with ATI. It's not about additional profits or growth, but rather about survival.

Good to see I am not alone with this take.

Otoh, I have a distinct smell there is more synergies than currently visible in the merger. From the analyst presentations i am not even sure the potential is fully discovered inside the company yet. Might take some time, but could become a sexy story.
