thank you steve and dlewis. i'm only an investor. so i think i got it now... my brokers will send me a filled out 1099-b from all my trades throughout the year. i then put in my gains/losses in the first box of 1040sd (schedule d form) with the words "various from broker X" and "various from broker Y." i put in the total into my 1040A and give the IRS a copy of the 1099-b and 1040sd forms. i will do more research just to be sure. before today i didn't evem know what a 1040sd or 1099-b were! hahahaha. thanks again for the help!
