Depends, taxes are done on a lot of different ways and the IRS cares about all of them, payroll taxes, sales taxes, and yes plain ole regular income taxes.

And income taxes are prepared much differently than financial reporting and has a lot to do with elections made on specific items when originally incurred. Not to mention for a business of their size, they have to file regardless if they made money or not for all of the other reasons mentioned.
