The UFC is on the verge of its biggest announcement in front of its biggest audience.

Reports and rumors of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic — the PRIDE FC 2006 Open Weight Grand Prix Champion — joining the UFC have been downright draining for the past month.

Earlier this week, however, it became rather evident that the superstar heavyweight will sign a UFC contract (to read the posts click here and here). Now, we’re receiving even more good news from FightNetwork.com.

Here’s the latest update on the Cro Cop to the UFC saga:

Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) executive director Keith Kizer confirmed today that his agency has filed a petition with U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services seeking approval for Cro Cop to compete in UFC 67 on February 3. The UFC has yet to request NSAC approval for a potential opponent.

Dave Meltzer from WrestlingObserver.com has also confirmed that Cro Cop is in Las Vegas. And, I don’t think he flew all the way from Croatia to play a little Texas Hold ‘Em.

I’ll contain my zeal and thoughts until the moment of truth later on tonight.

Normally, we don’t get to find out what the fighters earn for their sacrifices in the Octagon until after the shows are over.

FightNetwork.com, however, has obtained the official compensation for three of the nine bouts on the December 30 card:

Chuck Liddell — $250,000 (no win bonus)
Tito Ortiz — $210,000 (no win bonus)

Note: Both Liddell and Ortiz are expected to share a percentage of PPV proceeds.

Forrest Griffin — $16,000 / $16,000
Keith Jardine — $7,000 / $7,000

Andrei Arlovski — $90,000 / $55,000 win bonus
Marcio “Pe de Pano” Cruz — $5,000 / $5,000 win bonus

Do you think “Pe de Pano” also gets a kick in the nuts after the fight with that chump change? Holy smokes.

As for Chuck and Tito, these guys are fixing to make a killing from the PPV proceeds — even if it doesn’t reach 1.2 million buys as predicted.

I guess that’s what happens when the “#1 and #2″ light heavyweights in the world go head-to-head.

Watch UFC 66 online anywhere in the world

UFC 66 On Demand

We received a few emails from some UFC fans overseas this week, lamenting that it’s not possible for them to catch UFC 66.

On the contrary, maniacs.

UFC events can now be viewed online anywhere in the world with UFC On Demand.

I’m not sure if this is a new feature just for this event or it has been around for awhile. That’s because I can conveniently purchase the pay-per-view (PPV) event right through my cable box.

But, I did a little research and found the link above.

So whether you’re from Ireland or Japan, fans around the world have the opportunity to watch a UFC 66 on the Internet, according to UFC.com
