Filo and alpha and MERS , oh my, chanted the crowd, waiting for the carnival man to emerge on Oct 11, the four month anniversary of the big pan corona plus others viral research grant pushed by the RBL and IP. On June 11 the announcement seemed so real, so upbeat, so enticing. Many in the crowd had purchased shares in the company, and the common had printed up millions of them. It seemed exciting at the time but as the days wore on, people began to wonder if they had been duped.
Because the company man dropped the whole grant thing entirely. Gone.
We wanna know what happened, the crowd said. We want know if you made the whole thing up. We bought our shares fair and square and we deserve to know now.
But the carnival was not pausing for any explanation, or clarity, not even a bit.
Instead the man told the crowd that they kept doing more and more research because it was going so well- heck, they woulda stopped months ago if it were no good, he said- and that some day they would put it out for everyone to see. They would publish. Focus on those peer reviewed articles, almost ready, just hang on. Things were not published because so much good stuff was being done they just had to keep doing more. But the articles would come out, so get in line and get a part of the future of medicine
Some people thought that was one of the dumbest things they had ever heard- the corona virus had shut down the world and was killing people, but instead of putting out some information and starting a trial, they kept doing lab work. And then the article did not not come out
But the man said that very soon the trial would start, hard to say when, but it would and they were planning meetings with the FDA. Forget the grant and the papers, the trial would have 120 sick patients and hospitals all over the country were just begging to be part of it, calling night and day. Hospitals and doctors cannot wait to try Brilacidin and you are in the very right place at the very right time
And that was enough for a lot of folks. The company was printing millions of more shares and the people could buy some of them too and think about the trial changing the world, just around the corner, and if you got two dimes well, then you can step right up and buy in.
The grant and the papers were forgotten by most of the crowd and they gathered up their change and bought few more shares. They forgot their anger and waved signs, Defensins are your Friends! and Synthetic Molecules R Us! Their anger cooled just as did the season and the beautiful fall colors in New England helped them forget any disappointment. They no longer chanted about MERS and SARS.
They were sure the world was just about to change, any minute now.
