Four- count 'em four-months ago the carnival barker set up shop near Route 128 outside Boston and a crowd gathered. They came to hear about the battle shaping up that could change the world- a synthetic molecule called Brilacidin versus the corona virus, a global pandemic causing panic and fear.

On June 11 the company man spoke to the people who had gathered there. "The RBL and I are collaborating on a grant to study B for C, but that 's just the beginning. The grant is to study brilacidin and other corona viruses, like SARS and MERS too.

"But that is not all. Not by a long shot. The grant will be to study brilacidin and other viruses alpha, and filoviruses. Do you hear the words that are coming out of my mouth? I am telling you that a government agency lab is telling me that I should apply with them for a federal grant to study many types of viruses because they are so excited about our shiny new synthetic molecule.

"I am giving you the chance to join me and them right now. I am issuing new shares in my company- lots of new shares, in fact millions of them, to give YOU the chance to own a part in all this. And it only costs a nickel and a dime or two to buy in."

He knew the pitch was good because many people reached into their pockets and pulled out their change and bought shares right there on the spot.

But what would happen four- count 'em four-months later? When the carnival barker never said another word about that big federal grant to study all those viruses? After he took the money but dropped all that talk about MERS and SARS and filoviruses ? Can the carnival barker just pretend all that talk never happened? Even though he took their money?
