Our condo held it's annual homeowners meeting today (Saturday). We had to vote on whether or not to upgrade our 3 outdated, failing elevators that constantly break and parts are getting harder to get for our 15 story building. The total upgrade cost is $620,000 which will be spread out over 3 years.
There are 206 units so 206 total "votes". Condo Unit values currently range from about $160k to $300k each. It's a busy, popular building in decent area right on the beach.
There were 87 votes for "yes" to upgrade
There were 43 votes for "no" to upgrade
And 76 units DID NOT VOTE!
WTF? The upgrade passed, but more than 1/3 of ownership didn't bother to vote! It's impossible to try and figure out why some people do (or don't do) certain things...
