Look Jim I don't buy into many conspiracy theories, I think Oswald acted alone( a marine and a damn fine shot), but it seems to me that shorting itself is a shady practice ( yes I understand liquidity) that leaves the door open to manipulation. Having said that it seems that we should not close our eyes to the prospect of manipulation. It also seems that you put faith in the fact that an MM or B/D is going to be straight and lawabiding when it comes to making piles of cash. I don't think there is massive abuse of the ability to short while at the same time being the one who "makes the market", but it seems that it would not be too hard to do.
