It helps me to correlate closed loop with automatic pilot. Sensors read the current direction and mitigating factors to determine if an adjustment is needed. All of this is done from within. The process is monitored and corrections are made as needed. No outside intervention needed.

If closed loop in AM becomes reliable, then the idea of factories filled with printers running 24/7/365 may be possible. Little human interaction means cost savings. Parts with flaws are identified in mid production instead of afterward saving material.

SGLB seems to be ahead of everyone else here. Sigma just needs to prove to the industry that they can do closed loop reliably at a cost that is tenable, and the industry needs to mature to a point where AM is the standard instead of a novelty.
