okay here is why these carbon credits could in fact be worth something someday, in theory.

Global Warming IS happening. Humans are heating up the atmosphere at an alarming rate- this is now a fact and is not argued by anyone with legitimate research. So in a scramble to prevent a disaster some countries have adapted a model laid out in the kyoto protocol in which you can pump greenhouse gases out as much as you want as long as you buy the credits to offset your output.
The bigger picture is that someday all governments including the USA will have to enforce emmissions laws. This will in turn "create a market" for these credits because every company that emits co2 will have to get there hands on some of these credits. There are an awful lot of companies in the world that emit co2 and the available rainforests for participation in these programs is shrinking......Therefor the theory is that in the future there will be more demand and less supply for these credits.
