A colonial era wreck found by EXPL’s AUV in roughly 5000 ft of water more than 200 miles off the US east coast.
The AUV is equipped with sensors for ferrous and non ferrous metal detection, 3D sub bottom profiling, and a 100/400khz side scan sonar. The system also has a high resolution camera system. The AUV can be programmed to fly over a target area in 5000 ft of water like in the photo below and take 1x1 meter photos that are electronically stitched together to create photo mosaics like this.
The system itself is several years old, but is some of the most recent technology.
