They were the group that was to give Alonzo the influx of cash to keep things going. That is also the group he talks about when he says he trusts no one and also the group that tried to get the pit. They took Alonzo for a ride and tried to bankrupt him and get his assets but amazing as it may seem Alonzo came out on top. You can read about it all in the bankruptcy reorganization.
