Pumping and dumping happens for many reasons, usually because of PR release cycles. I've been buying shares since $.50's and it's now trading over $1.00, so I'm feeling fine. TBH I'm not really all that excited until we're trading over $5, everything that happened over the last few days is just 'meh' in my book.

If you regret your decision then you probably lack experience and got burned. With experience you wouldn't have bought shares the day there's a 60%+ jump in the share price, you would have bought a year ago or you would have known to wait a while for the price to pull back. Buying on the day there's a huge rise is an amateur move, it's an emotional move, it demonstrates lack of experience.

This kind of thing happens all the time on low volume and low priced stocks, far more common in the pinks/OTC, this is not so far outside the norm as you might think.

This company's stock has such a low market cap I would anticipate more high volatility as improvements continue to be announced in future PR's, especially on the brink of operational revenue.
