A World Health Organization (WHO) report released April 2014 stated, “this serious threat is no longer a prediction for the future, it is happening right now in every region of the world and has the potential to affect anyone, of any age, in any country.

According to the CDC’s Antibiotic Resistance Threats report in the United States more than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections occur in the U.S. each year, and more than 35,000 people die as a result. In addition, 223,900 cases of Clostridioides difficile (c.diff) occurred in 2017 and at least 12,800 people died.
