Another indication for Venturis’s drug?

Shouldn’t Venturis Therapeutics be pursuing another indication for its drug, in treating patients with cirrhosis of the liver? Based on what I’ve read in the scientific literature, the drug may have the real possibility of regenerating liver function, particularly in end-stage patients.

What prompted my research was a wedding I went to out of town last weekend. My best friend’s oldest son got married, and they had a scaled-down, socially-distanced wedding. Right after the ceremony, one of the bride’s relatives had gotten so drunk that he fell down and couldn’t get up on his own, or even walk. His wife, who is morbidly obese (about 5’4” and close to 300 pounds, and so overweight she couldn’t even bend down to help him on the floor), asked a bunch of us to carry her husband back up to his hotel room. I wish she hadn’t asked me (because of coronavirus concerns), but I couldn’t turn down someone in distress. So several of us helped get this drunk guy back to his hotel room—-he certainly couldn’t get there on his own. I learned from one of the others that this man, Gary, was dying and doesn’t have much time left because his liver is failing from decades of abuse (he apparently has lost 100 pounds in the last few years due to his illness). Gary’s doctor reportedly told him that if he has another drink, he’s a goner, but obviously Gary’s still drinking. It reminded me of my cousin’s wife who passed away from end-stage liver disease brought on by decades of heavy drinking. So I went online and read further about this, and it just made me realize there’s another clinical opportunity for Venturis Therapeutics that really should be pursued.

Here’s a thought – maybe Venturis should re-brand itself as a company that specializes in treatments for alcoholics? Maybe that would attract capital from new sources—-nothing else seems to have.
