I am a metallurgist but not a mining engineer. I don't know the statistics on open pit mines. But in my mind if the gold is there it has value and some existing process, or a yet to be developed process will be used to get to it.

If you don't like the depth here check out SKREF they are talking deep and a strip ration of 7+:1.
