I agree with that. Calabria himself hasnt taken backward steps on his responsibilities as a conservator. But any forward steps.....since they all announced that the goal was to get the GSE's out of conservatorship several years ago....remind me of the kind of tiny steps that Tim Conway as the Old Man used to take on the Carol Burnett show. (Now I'm really dating myself- youtube probably has some clips).

In my opinion, Trump/Mnuchin installed Calabria as a placeholder that they could manipulate at FHFA. And being the true academic, he follows orders well from on high while adhering to the conservator standards. Trump/Mnuchin are birds of a feather; both hardball business guys from way back. I think they wanted to see the end of conservatorship unfold a certain way.....and the legal end be damned. They are street fighters and have both been through their share of battles over the years.
They dont like giving in if they see any chance that they can get what they want for the Treasury.

So here we remain for now... still in limbo. And still waiting for finalization of Calabria's one main job.....capital standards.
