The media does some vetting and makes phone calls and does some research before releasing a story, not always but as a rule of thumb yes they do.

Actually, they do very little follow up and fact checking, especially in todays news environment. The 24 second news cycle is too fast for them so they threw journalism out the door years ago. I dont believe about 75% of what is reported from MSM.
