Three things on this presentation were interesting to me:

1. They have a photo of the SPORT system just sitting there in their new building with glass openings. Just felt it was weird. You would think it would have a little more security. Perhaps in a secured location like a bit of a vault. Again. Weird. Actually, there were multiple SPORT units sitting there. How many do they have? You would think there would be some in hospitals?

2. Page 11 says 2D camera on the left and 3D camera on the right. Which is it?

3. Page 15 I thought was an incredible slide. They did a cholecystectomy, nissen fundoplication, esophagectomy, gastrectomy, splenectomy, a colectomy and a low anterior resection!!!!!!! I am not sure if people realize how important this information is. I was a bit blown away when I saw this information. Especially when I saw the esophagectomy and the nissen fundoplication. A nissen fundoplication is normally done laparoscopically and normally requires multiple people. It is a bit of a bitch of a surgery as you have to create the exposure before suturing tissue around the esophagus to prevent further regurgitation. To successfully complete a nissen fundoplication using the SPORT excites me. Though a cholecystectomy is a common procedure, the gallbladder is right next to the liver and resecting the gallbladder with adhesions from the liver bed can be problematic and create some bleeding issues. To successfully remove a gallbladder again is an accomplishment. I think the surgery that blew me away a bit was the esophagectomy. Again, it normally requires two people. The esophagus is also near some highly vascularized structures. Severe bleeding though rare is a lethal complication of an esophagectomy. For SPORT to have completed one is an accomplishment!

McNally is trying to get SPORT to market with urogyn procedures and then will expand SPORT usage after it is on the market to general surgery procedures. Brilliant move. The fact that SPORT has the ability to perform these procedures tells me the future is bright for single site surgery.
