I'm not in the medical field but I know how difficult it is to get these fluorinated molecules (only found 2 firms in EU that made them on industrial scale for normal industies so there is not much experience in this field, let stand even in het medical field)

Currently I'm doing research with a compound we normally don't use in our product (not food related or medical so no external firms that would hold me down) Currently at year 2 and I hope in maybe 2 more years it may get implemented (and this is only because the physical properties of this product is different then normally used).
So 10 years in development for a medical compound is in my view fair with all the restrictions and all the research around it.

Research is always a cost for each company the positive thing with SBFM is that they have some income stream with the amazon sales (this does not happen a lot with these small R&D medical companies). I know where I work the cost is not that big because we get subsidized, we just need to show yearly that we are actually doing R&D work to an external party.

The molecule is a podophyllotoxin, already proven to work on cancer. By "enhancing" it fat solubility characteristic by adding F-atoms on it I can see that working much better then regular molecules (deeper penetration of the tumor to take down more cancer cells).

Although in my experience with R&D almost 90 % of our project is a fail or a status quo (so no implementation) this has the same chance to succeed. We do not know how many molecules they tried so this could be the golden one. Seeing how the chart is reacting it might be this way.
