Taiwan Professionals To Benefit From Mobile Internet "Hot Spots"
By asia.internet.com staff

Following the May 2001 launch of the Cisco Internet Mobile Office (CIMO) initiative in Taiwan, Cisco Systems, Infoserve and Acer Technology will now make the Internet Mobile Office service available at more than 10 "hot spots" in Taiwan.

"The Cisco Internet Mobile Office initiative is an example of how technology is revolutionizing businesses. The program offers business professionals secure and reliable access to their corporate network while they are on the move, thus increasing the productivity of enterprises," said Larry Sun, Country Manager of Cisco Systems Taiwan.

"Cisco Taiwan is pleased to be working with industry leaders such as Infoserve and Acer Sertek to launch and expand this initiative in Taiwan."

To date, the CIMO service has been launched in Hong Kong and Singapore, with a host of locations serving as "hot spots" where mobile business professionals can take advantage of secure, high-speed network access to the Internet and their corporate resources.

Scheduled for general availability in mid-August, the newly launched service in Taipei integrates features of CIMO, Infoserve Internet Mobile Office (isIMO) and Acer's Travelmate 610 notebook.

Said James Chiang, president of Acer Sertek, "With the introduction of our newest Acer TravelMate 611 TXCi, we are very pleased and excited to be working with Infoserve and Cisco to offer secure broadband network access to mobile business professionals. This is the first notebook in Taiwan with built-in wireless capability and offers users security, reliability and convenience."

The service will initially be available at more than 10 publicly accessible locations in Taiwan. These include coffee shops such as Boncafe, Caravali Collection, The Coffee Bean, Doutor Coffee, I`R Caffe Trattoria; and hotels including Four Points Sheraton at Chung Ho, Taipei.

According to Infoserve's general manager Michael Chang, Infoserve is "actively negotiating" with hotels, airports, coffee shops and airlines to take part in the Internet Mobile Office initiative. "We are confident that there will be more hot spots soon," he added.
