Some years ago at a funeral for an elderly woman who was good friends
with my (then deceased) parents who had many grandchildren, one stood
out. A young man in his late teens or early 20's was wearing what
looked like a a large white collar around his neck, like the ones
that are worn by dogs to prevent them from biting their stitches.
The reason for this was shocking! A massive amount of this young
man's face, especially lower jaw area, was missing! I never talked
to anyone in his family to find out what became of him. Truthfully,
I am afraid to. That one experience has me hoping that the study
has a very positive outcome. Seeing a young person who has undergone
such a devastating condition makes you want to do all you can to remedy
such a tragedy. So sad that the testing takes so long. Should the
results be positive I hope the adoption will go quickly.
