They say it has "all the hallmarks" of being highly adapted to infect humans - and needs close monitoring.

If it turns out to be true . . . I wonder how long before we own up to (or at least investigate) those "hallmarks" being "genetically engineered" to infect certain humans . . . for whatever nefarious reasons one might imagine? Highly adapted might very well be "expertly engineered." As we learned with eugenics (well, some learned) really promising science can have a very "Black Mirror" purpose or outcome.
