On April 7, 2015, BBB contacted the business regarding claims made on its website, broadcasts, and at tradeshows. Specifically, the business claims that:
1. The oxidized water generated by their product is a safe toxic free bleaching agent.
2. The product supports a consumer's health.
3. Using the product results in a "Chemical Free Laundry".
4. The product increases fabric life.
5. The product is 100% eco-friendly.

Claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data.

The business advertises that their product alters the water molecule structure. Therefore, the EcoWasher product may not add detergents, but may generate other chemicals. BBB requested lab results, including verification that hydroxyl radicals generated by the business' product do not present a danger to consumer health, substantiation of a decrease of the chemical compounds other than water, and verification of increased fabric life.

BBB also requested details regarding the testing procedures and trial results used for the vial samples (Gunk Water Test) shown on their website. A report provided to BBB determined 37 instances where test chemical levels were detected, but were inconclusive. The provided study stated more testing was suggested.

For more information regarding advertisement of environmental claims, please consult the Federal Trade Commission Green Guides. Similarly, in Canada, advertisers should consult CAN/CSA-ISO 14021 - Environmental claims: A guide for industry and advertisers.

On April 15, 2015, the business responded to BBB that they were having additional testing done. They expected the results to prove the product generates a "toxic free" cleaning agent. The business believes, because they use no chemical additives with their product, they can claim to be toxic free due to the fact that they are not using detergents. Additionally, they expected the lab results to also show that there are no chemicals left behind in the wash.

Regarding any environmental claims, i.e. 100% ecofriendly, environmentally friendly, and supports environment, the business states that no detergent means no more plastic detergent bottles are added to landfills, no more chemicals being added to the water which means no more toxic waste water going into the rivers, lakes and streams. No more hot water is being used - that is an energy efficient aspect. The business states they are expecting a manufacturers' report showing their product is made without any chemicals and produces no chemicals.

On November 17, 2016, BBB again contacted the business regarding continued advertising issues. While EcoInventions made modifications to the www.ecowasher.com website, misleading and unsubstantiated claims were still being advertised on Facebook, YouTube and the business’ other associated sites. According to BBB's Code of Advertising, advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast.

BBB found that EcoInventions:

Has not clearly and conspicuously separated findings from clinical and commercial studies relating to the technology of its products.
Claims the product is patented. BBB was unable to locate any patents relating to the EcoWasher product through the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Makes claims regarding the safety of its products that have either not been proven through lab studies conducted on the products themselves, or implies a degree of safety not proven. For example: “With EcoWasher® there are no harmful chemicals being dumped back into the environment”, and “imagine a laundry solution so pure you could drink it.”
Makes generalized claims without substantiation. For example: “Detergent cannot kill germs and are filled with poisonous ingredients.“
Makes claims regarding maximum cost savings, but does not include what a normal consumer would experience. For example: “Allows a home to be more energy efficient. ‘Estimates of savings potential are as high as 90% in washing and 20% in drying. ‘”
The business has not removed or modified these claims
