This might not be a popular opinion but it is one that needs to be said IMO. I'm a proponent of slapping the ask as most of us are, I am not a proponent of bid-sitting (buying on the bid) and here is why. If you're an MM and you have to take the opposite side of a trade, would you want to do it on the bid (with a 20 to 50 tick spread) or the ask for a stock whose PPS is appreciating? MM's will drive the price down to take the bid sitter. The bid sitter thinks he's getting a great price and the price slows its appreciation at the least and tanks at the worst. All the while no-one is selling, but the MM's have bids to fill!!! Pretty simple folks.
