Another opinion seconding the notion that vaccines may not be that helpful, and arguing for antivirals:

We believe that antivirals are the best, and most practical way to tackle COVID-19. Based on current clinical and experimental evidence, antivirals that specifically aim to hamper viral replication (as opposed to viral entry into cells) will be most effective.

Antivirals designed to inhibit viral replication work, but will be less effective in patients with advanced disease given disease progression has more to do with underlying conditions and complications not relating to the virus itself. Aggressive screening should be used to support early administration of antivirals in asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic patients.

Since brilacidin must be given IV (like remdesivir), unfortunately it will probably only be given in sicker, hospitalized patients. It is definitely an advantage with its long half life that it could be a one time or once q. 3-7 day dosing verus daily for 5 days for remdesivir. Perhaps single brilacidin IVs could be given in outpatient setting to mild cases. Maybe brilacidin pill could help with some of the GI-dominant Covid-19 cases.

The SA author argues that antivirals stopping viral replication will be more helpful than viral entry inhibitors or those that disassemble viral particles outside of cells, but not sure why that would be (other than perhaps most people are diagnosed after cells are already infected). It will be great to see exactly HOW brilacidin works as an antiviral.

I like SLC's and others' idea of possibly a nebulized dose to get brilacidin into the lungs. Oral brilacidin does not get into systemic circulation and will never make it to the lungs where it is needed.
