I just read a great article explaining exactly what is going on here. It's actually the opposite of "pump and dump", it is called "short and distort (S&D)".
"Short and Distort (S&D) refers to an unethical and illegal practice that involves shorting a stock and then spreading rumors in a attempt to drive down it's price.
S&D traders manipulate stock prices conducting smear campaigns, often online, to drive down the price of the targeted stock."

Although these tactics are clearly not working with this stock, it is important and informative reading for anyone who invests in stocks.
